Sweet Seclusion: It’s Writer’s Retreat Week!
Kandy Harris | April 6, 2015I never found a companion that was so companionable as solitude. Henry David Thoreau
Uncle Henry knew the score. The author of Walden might be literature’s greatest champion of seeking alone time to commune with nature and create (although one could argue that all of that nature communing is what lead to his death from tuberculosis in the first place), so we think he would approve of our theme of the week. We’ll be exploring the rich world of writer’s retreats in both the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Now, the definition of a writers’ retreat is different for everyone who fantasizes about such things, but for our money, we prefer properties that include a modicum of privacy, are generally small (who needs a giant manse to write in? Too distracting), offer inspirational views of nature, and are priced reasonably at less than $200,000. So sharpen those pencils, re-ink your typewriter, and pour yourself a cup of writerly ambition. It’s time for Writer’s Retreat Week on Upstater. Stay tuned…
