This Week on Upstater: Taking the Scenic (Byway) Route
Kandy Harris | November 16, 2015New York State designated Scenic Byways snake their way around the Hudson Valley and Catskills, providing a roadmap for some of the prettiest country in Upstater Land.
There’s the Shawangunk Mountains Scenic Byway starts in New Paltz and connects 88 miles’ worth of roads that encircle the ‘Gunks in Ulster County, and in the Catskills, Upper Delaware Scenic Byway/Route 97 follows the Delaware River for 70 miles along the western edge of Sullivan County with its southern starting point in Port Jervis. Up in the northern Catskills, you can travel the 21-mile Durham Valley Scenic Byway, or you can take the Catskills Scenic Byway Route 30, which accompanies the East Branch of the Delaware River through Andes, Colchester, Hancock, Middletown, and Roxbury.
Or, you’re can do what we’re doing this week and explore them all. Catch some stunning views of mountains (soon to be dusted with snow) and see what the real estate markets have to offer around the byways. After all, it’s always a good time to take the scenic route. Stay tuned…
