Catskills Reclaimed Cabin Made of Centuries-Old Wood near Book Village, $125,000
Kandy Harris | November 19, 2015Did we hit all the right buzzwords in the title? We got in “Catskills,” “reclaimed,” “cabin,” “centuries-old,” and “book” all out in one shot, and if it were us reading that title, we’d be scrambling for the listing to see what that’s all about. Aside from dying to see more of the inside, we didn’t to read much beyond the fact that the wood used in the cabin (two cabins, actually, and a storage shed on this 12 acre property) came from wood that’s 400 years old before we were intrigued. Don’t worry; nobody’s going around chopping down 400 year old trees in the Catskills to make this homestead. The wood came from old buildings, which were believed to be made from very old trees.
New stuff in the main cabin including double hung thermal pane windows and doors, new metal roof, new deck, and a new well. Stay warm with the living room wood stove, and put up your overnight guests in the small guest cabin included with the property. We spy with our little eye outdoor showers, but we’re hoping the other facilities are located indoors.
The property is located off of Route 10 just outside of Hobart and Book Village in Delaware County, so named for its cluster of bookstores in the small village. Catskill Scenic Route 30 runs on the other side of Plattekill Mountain from the cabin, from Grand Gorge through Roxbury down to Margaretville.
440 McMurdy Brook Road, South Kortright (Caldwell Banker Timberland)
