A Queen Anne Victoria Situated in the “Queen of the Catskills,” $199,000
Kandy Harris | January 11, 2017
The Catskill Scenic Trail starts in the Delaware County village of Hobart and continues along a 26-mile meandering path eventually ending in the hamlet of Bloomville to the west. Its relatively mild grade makes it ideal for biking, and the trail offers views of the West Branch of the Delaware River.
While you’re in the neighborhood, swing by the village of Stamford about 10 minutes north of the Catskill Scenic trailhead in Hobart. There, you’ll find this sight for sore eyes: A c.1890s Queen Anne Victorian right in the center of Stamford village, resplendent with stained glass windows, original wood trim and main staircase, gingerbread cutout detailing on the front façade, and hardwood floors. For a listing price less than $200,000, the property includes five beds, four baths, full basement, and 2700 square feet. The lot size is over a quarter-acre in size and comes with a detached garage.
This is technically set up as a multi-family with two two-bedroom apartments plus one studio apartment, but we can’t help but wonder what kind of single family home this would make one lucky buyer who’s not afraid of a little renovating.
Stamford is situated in the heart of some of the western Catskills prettiest countryside. In addition to the Catskill Scenic Trail, visitors should check out the village of Roxbury, Hobart Book Village, and Woodchuck Lodge , John Burroughs’ home in the Catskill Mountains.
