This Week on Upstater: Historic Homes in the Hudson Valley & Catskills
Kandy Harris | January 16, 2017Antiques Enthusiasts: This week’s theme is for you. As a discerning seeker of all things venerable, you’ve no doubt discovered that the Hudson Valley and Catskills region is a mecca for antiques and vintage items. Saugerties village in Ulster County is known for its multitude of antique stores. So, too, are Hudson in Columbia County, Catskill in Greene County, and Rhinebeck in Dutchess County, just to name a few places.
Likewise, vintage beauty lies within the residential architecture of the region. If you’re interested in an historic home – and by, “historic home,” we mean any home that’s 1) listed on a registry of historic places; 2) older than 1917; 3) is a well-preserved example of its particular style of architecture; OR 3) holds some sort of significant historic value in its community – there are plenty on the market right this very moment. Bonus points for historic properties that have been restored, renovated, or updated in a creative or energy-efficient way. After all, is there anything more eco-friendly than recycling an already-existing structure?
This week on Upstater, we’ll be donning our tri-corner hats and saddling up our horses for a tour of the historic homes of the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Expect to find rambling old farmhouses, Victorians, Arts & Crafts, Colonials, brick brownstones, and more. Stay tuned…
