This Abandoned town of Catskill House Needs a Superhero, $69,000
Kandy Harris | June 30, 2017This house in Catskill. This poor, graffitied, dilapidated Victorian house in Catskill needs someone to swoop in and bring it back to life…possibly with defibrillators. It’s in bad shape, but we can’t help but root for an underdog, especially one that was built in 1890, includes over 2600 square feet, and still bares hints of its former beauty in its stained glass windows and wrap-around front porch with brick support beams.
What does it need? Darn near everything, as far as we can tell from this listing, so, we’re working on the assumption that whoever invests in this house will need to give it The Works. Here’s the good news: This house has good bones, roof, and electric. It also has some of its original features in tact like wood moldings and floors. The listing classifies it as a “multi-family” but since you’re starting from a blank slate, make it a single family. Includes a .37 acre parcel, and more land is available, as well.
As for the location, the property sits right where Route 23A meets withRoute 9W heads into Catskill village headed north from Ulster County, which is, quite frankly, not the most picturesque locale around. Expect to find strip malls and used car lots as you head due north on 9W. However, the house sits on a nice little sloped piece of land and shaded by a big tree. Here’s how it looks from Route 23A:
401 West Bridge Street, Catskill (Barns & Farms Realty)
