It’s a Celebration of Stained Glass in this Germantown Church, $999,500
Kandy Harris | August 12, 2019Stained glass enthusiasts: Keep your eyes on Upstater this week, starting with this c.1920s Germantown church and parsonage.
We’ve got a bounty of breathtaking homes in the Hudson Valley and Catskills featuring stained glass windows, and where better to start our search than with a church? A former Methodist Church, to be exact, with a three-bedroom farmhouse parsonage right next door, situated in southern Columbia County.
Lots of new and restored features within this old (renovated) house, like refinished plank and hardwood floors, a stainless steel kitchen, and updated bedrooms with shiplap accent walls and arts-and-crafts-style windows.
From the kitchen, arched glass doors open onto a wood patio overlooking the one-acre property.
But, what to do with a 3,200-square-foot former Methodist church with tin cathedral ceilings, kitchen and dining area, and gathering spaces/classrooms? What wouldn’t you do with it? Turn it into your art or music studio, live/work situation, or convert it into a residence.
There are, of course, many stained glass windows…
…from the fancy and ornate…
…to the simple and understated.
Germantown is an east-of-Hudson-River hamlet with charming shops and cafes, located about 15 minutes’ drive from Tivoli, NY. This church and parsonage are just north of the hamlet’s center.
