Woodsy Contemporary in Ancram with Killer Berkshires Views, $575K

We’re heading north today for views of the Berkshires from this three-bed, two-bath contemporary in Ancram.

It’s tucked into a woodsy enclave, but it faces some killer views.

As dark as the house is on the outside, the exact opposite is true inside. Light pine floors and white walls bounce light from the triple casement windows in the living room.

The dining area has a minimalistic beauty—but really, with mountain views like those from the east-facing windows and doors, any ornamentation would be gilding the lily.

There’s a winding staircase separating the dining area from the kitchen. Two sets of sliders open to a deck that’s the entire width of the house.

Here, slate blue colors the cabinets and the base of the big kitchen island, all topped by white solid-surface counters. Open wood shelving and white subway-tile backsplashes continue the clean lines.

There’s one bedroom on the main floor. It’s simple but beautiful, with a neutral wall-to-wall carpeting and twin casement windows.

This full bath—done up in shades of blue that complement the wood vanity—is next to the bedroom.

Head up the stairs to the second floor. The hallway is all knotty-pine floors and shiplap walls.

The ceiling’s wood planks and support beams create this little hang space (literally, if the new owner chooses to hang a similar egg chair).

This sunny nook with a skylight is perfect for penning the next greatest novel.

The two upstairs bedrooms have vaulted ceilings with painted support beams, and old-fashioned doors and hardware.

This bedroom’s got a skylight, through which you can get a peek of the stars through the trees at night.

The bedrooms share this shiplap-walled full bath, with a large tub and a modern Shaker-style vanity.

The ground level has this workshop with what looks like a terrarium built into the staircase (which is a really cool idea if you’re into reptiles and stuff).

This office is also on the ground floor. It has wood-plank walls punctuated by big windows that allow plenty of distraction and daydreaming with those mountain views. The house totals 1,568 square feet, and sits on six acres close to attractions in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
