A Brick Two-Story in Saugerties for $399K
Jane Anderson | January 22, 2024One-level living has its perks, but sometimes that can seem, well, a little boring. So this week, Upstater’s looking up(stairs) at anything but a ranch.
Today’s pick—a brick two-story in Saugerties—was built in 1947. The exterior is well-kept, and that archway to the covered porch is intriguing, especially when it’s lit by late light. There’s not much in terms of landscaping, but the relatively low purchase price may allow for some outside creativity.
You’ll need some creativity indoors as well: Although the house is move-in ready, it needs updating. Take, for instance, the living room. The brick fireplace is nice, and the hardwood floor glows. But those ceiling tiles are not what we’d love in a house.
That ethos continues in the kitchen, but with a gray wood floor. The cabinets and granite-and-butcher-block counters look new.
The floor in this room is nice, along with a new-looking paint job on the walls.
A simple wood stair leads to the second floor.
Up here you’ll find the bathroom. Tile surrounds the tub/shower combo; the floor is similar to the kitchen flooring.
Three bedrooms occupy the second floor. We love the glass doorknobs and the rich wood floor. The wall paneling, though, is dated.
Fortunately, there’s no paneling in this bedroom, and the window trim is on point.
The third bedroom combines the good (a beautiful wood floor) with the bad (those ceiling tiles again) and the ugly (why was that window trim painted, anyway?).
The house measures just over 1,100 square feet and sits on a city lot of 0.08 acres. The new owner has a lot of opportunities to remake the interior and the yard into their dream property. Bonus: The brick two-story exterior is lower maintenance than wood siding.
The neighborhood is walkable and leafy, and it’s just a six-minute stroll to music, arts, and culture at The Local. On your way, you’ll pass Main Street’s restaurants and shops, such as Inquiring Mind Bookstore & Cafe.
