A Cute, Colorful Ranch in Phoenicia for $499K
Jane Anderson | September 13, 2023Upstater found a quirky-cool house in Phoenicia—let’s check it out!
You can tell from the cobalt-and-lime exterior that this c.1940 cottage is out of the ordinary.
The main level (through that bright green front door) is a mix of living, dining, and kitchen areas. Check out those steps on the spiral staircase, and the modern Edison-lamp chandelier. Remnants of the home’s birth remain, like scalloped built-in bookcases flanking the painted-brick fireplace.
The ceiling is peaked here and reaches the second-floor loft.
The dining area is next to the stairs, and the kitchen is tucked into its own area on one side of the main level. It has stainless-steel fixtures and white cabinets, with white shelves above.
The two bedrooms on the main floor each have ensuite baths. This bedroom has a beautifully messy Edison-light fixture, and sliders cut into the white-painted, wood-paneled walls that lead to the deck. Tons of improvements have been made to the house, including ductless mini-split ventilation systems; and the windows, skylights, bathrooms, well, septic system, and kitchen appliances are all new.
The bathroom is cute, with a gray-and-white vanity and a hex-tiled glass shower stall.
The second bedroom is equally cute, with white walls, a chandelier, and a painted wood floor.
This bathroom mimics the first, with a smaller vanity.
This loft room isn’t described in the listing, but it’s accessed via the spiral staircase.
“Stadium” seating and swinging chairs complement an outdoor movie-screening area in the backyaard.
This concrete patio has a firepit and seating areas.
There’s a hot tub, too! The property measures just over a quarter-acre, and it’s just five minutes from downtown Phoenicia. Grab breakfast at Sweet Sue’s then pedal your way down an old rail track with Rail Explorers.
That camper isn’t specifically named in the listing, but the interior is pictured, so we assume it’s part of the sale, too. It’s a great addition to the 784-square-foot cottage.
