A Great Barrington Victorian with Gorgeous Details for $849K
Jane Anderson | December 26, 2023It’s the last week of 2023, and Upstater is heading east to Great Barrington, MA.
The charming town is arguably the most popular destination in the Berkshires; today’s house is definitely on par with that. Built in 1898, the house abounds with Victorian details amid a move-in-ready vibe. The front steps lead to a stone-lined keyhole archway partially concealing the covered front porch. Blue-painted cedar shakes cover the second-floor facade, while siding in the same tone is on the first.
It’s easy to imagine whiling away a summer’s day on this beautiful porch.
The foyer has a staircase with swirly spindles and hardwood treads.
The living room is lined with low bookshelves underneath maroon walls. A bay window has stacked pairs of triple panes.
Double pocket doors open from the living room to the adjoining dining room, where a woodstove fireplace is flanked by shelving and cabinets. The floors throughout the main floor are light hardwood.
The kitchen is tiled with a cream-and-green backsplash. The cabinets are Shaker-style in a light putty color, complemented by dark granite counters. The shape of the kitchen goes from slim galley-style…
…and around a bend to encompass another wall of cabinetry and double wall ovens. A dinette set fits perfectly here.
The house has five bedrooms and four baths. This green room has a peaked ceiling, half-window shutters for privacy, and beige wall-to-wall carpeting.
Blue tile makes up half the walls in this bathroom, which has white fixtures and a shower.
The stairs curl their way up to the second floor, surrounded by a plethora of white-painted walls.
This bedroom is a lovely teal color, with a gray painted floor and a white fireplace.
In the ensuite bath, a large tub is surrounded by walls of beige tile, with matching mosaic tile along the tub wall and on the floor. The soaking tub is ensconced behind a glass door within the bathroom, next to a wide, single-sink vanity.
This bedroom has wall-to-wall carpeting and a tongue-and-groove ceiling. The closet has a circular window.
This bath (what we can see of it) has yellow walls.
That bathroom is ensuite to this bedroom, which has a triple-pane window, gray walls, and an angled ceiling.
A second-floor laundry room is handy; we love that shade of blue against the gray-and-white decor. A folding table, upper cabinet, and work sink complete the room.
A checkerboard ceiling is an interesting touch in this green bedroom.
The attic is finished with a blue-and-gray-painted floor. The windows are pretty in this room: One has diamond panes, while the other is circular with an intricate design.
A paver pathway leads to a two-car garage.
The rear of the house has an open deck and pretty plantings. The house sits on a third of an acre, a two-minute drive to mindful shopping at the Berkshire Food Co-op.
