A Modern Riverfront Palace in Hyde Park: $25M

Today is Fancy Friday, and Upstater’s pulling out all the stops in finishing up our week in Hyde Park.

This modern riverfront palace in Hyde Park was created with a nod to Frank Lloyd Wright. Seven bedrooms, 8.5 baths, and magnificent views from its Hudson River vantage point are just part of what this 19,463-square-foot masterpiece has to offer. The single-membrane roof was personally designed by architect Frank Gehry.

Too many details to mention, but this piece in Architectural Digest does a lot of the explaining. Long story short, there’s meticulous craftsmanship and a lot of different exotic woods and stone, as shown in the entry.

The far side of the living area has a panoramic vista; head back down the heated stone floors to a sunken conversation pit with its own precious view of the Hudson.

A guest house on the 10-acre property has two bedrooms and two baths. The main house contains, technically, three kitchens: the show kitchen (shown here), a prep kitchen, and a butler’s pantry. Exotic stone covers a breakfast peninsula with a waterfall edge, as well as covering the backsplash on the cooktop wall. Black granite countertops offer a welcome contrast.

Of course, the kitchen has a water view.

Light constantly bathes the primary bedroom, but we are partial to the golden hour, as shown here.

Amber-toned walls enhance that effect. The carved wall-to-wall carpet is warm underfoot, to be sure.

The primary ensuite bath is swoon-worthy. Forget his-and-hers sinks: This one has three…

…plus a steam shower, a regular shower, and this glorious golden travertine soaking tub with an unobstructed water view.

The billiards room is another show-stopper. Besides the priceless artwork, there’s a bar with backlit stone and (of course) exotic wood on the walls.

No matter if it’s winter or just rainy—if the new owners want to soak in the pool, there’s an indoor one, plus a hot tub.

And when the sun shines, the riverfront heated outdoor pool and hot tub are happy to oblige.

Secluded spots abide here, too, like this peninsula firepit.

The glass pane railing around the conversation area offers unimpeded water views.

All of this amplifies at dusk.

It’s just two hours to midtown Manhattan, plus this property is close to both Hyde Park and Rhinebeck.
