A Solar-Assisted Cape Cod in Poughquag: $439.9K

  |  March 5, 2024

This week, Upstater is visiting homes with solar panels to help cut electric bills.

Today’s pick is in Poughquag, a Dutchess County bedroom community east of Hopewell Junction. This solar-assisted Cape Cod started its life in 1948 but has undergone renovations since 2004 that’s brought it up to date. The front yard is inviting, leading up to a covered mahogany porch.

It’s a great place to catch those late-afternoon sunbeams.

The front door opens to the living room and an open view to the dining room (with the stairs to the basement in between).  Red oak flooring runs throughout the main floor.

A large entertainment center anchors one long end of the living room, with a trio of windows on an opposite wall.

That entertainment center backs up to a wall separating the living room from the kitchen.

Granite counters sweep almost all the way around the kitchen, overhanging into a breakfast bar and stopping at a French-door, stainless-steel fridge. The Omega cabinets are warm oak, and a tan, tumbled marble backsplash complements the color scheme.

The main-floor bedroom needs updating (and some ceiling paint around that sooty vent).

The main-floor bath has mauve walls atop white wainscoting.

The upstairs bath has a black, granite-topped, double-sink vanity and light-toned, tumbled-marble tiling around the walls…

…along with an oversized shower stall with a full-on shower system.

Terra-cotta walls highlight this bedroom.

The primary bedroom has beige, carved wall-to-wall carpeting with clay-colored walls.

This room repeats the other’s terra-cotta color scheme. It’s got tan wall-to-wall carpeting.

The finished basement has lots of flexible space in a gray-and-white color scheme. This part is currently a home gym.

Another side is an entertainment cave, replete with a pool table, sectional sofa, and wall-mounted TV.

An attached, one-car garage finishes the lower level. The house sits on a half-acre of land, just two minutes from a wealth of relaxation at Apothecary Spa & Wellness. And it’s just four minutes to the Stormville Airport Antique Show and Flea Market.
