A Stone-Accented Cottage in Wappingers Falls: $475K

As a building material, stone makes a strong statement. This week, Upstater’s looking at homes with stone elements.

Today, we’re visiting a stone-accented cottage in Wappingers Falls. Originally built in 1938, the house experienced some additions and renovations that expanded the interior to more than 2,000 square feet, but it remains a cottage at its core.

A pergola roof ups the charm on the front porch, along with a close-up look at the stonework.

That pretty stonework continues in the enclosed sun porch entry. Tongue-and-groove on the ceiling adds vintage vibes, and a tile floor is a smart choice.

Stone makes another appearance on the fireplace in the living room, which has a hardwood floor and a peek through a doorway at a vintage barn-style door.

In fact, a barn theme flows throughout the house; a sliding barn door separates a room from the living room, too.

The sole bathroom is off the living room, and it’s modern: white-grouted charcoal tiles cover the walls, and a black-and-white mosaic tile is repeated on both the floor and an accent wall in the tub/shower.

Another stone wall makes a dramatic statement in the kitchen. It’s a stunning contrast to the lithe lines of the marble-topped island/breakfast bar.

Maple cabinets are a refined touch, and white subway tile brightens the room.

Dark wood flooring plays well off the white walls in this bedroom; a red accent wall adds a wow factor.

This bedroom has dark wood flooring and lighter wood trimming the window and closet doors. It looks simple…

…but turn around to see another dramatic stone wall.

Head upstairs to the primary bedroom (the staircase is in the center of the room). The floors, ceiling, and walls continue the themes of the main level. A mirror-paned set of closet doors appears to double the size of the room.

The ceiling peaks above sleek wood beams.

A sitting area has a petite wood stove for cold nights.

This space incorporates a laundry area and a home gym.

Outdoor space includes this spacious deck with stairs down to the yard.

A separate deck serves an above-ground pool. This stone-accented cottage sits on over an acre just outside Wappingers Falls—a family-oriented village with an up-and-coming downtown, near all of the Route 9 shopping and the Taconic for easy commuting.
