An Affordable Farmhouse Awaits in Margaretville, $198,000
Kandy Harris | June 2, 2016The Delaware County village of Margaretville (not to be confused with Margaritaville, with apologies to Jimmy Buffet fans) is one of our favorite Catskill Mountain destinations during the summertime. It’s 15 minutes from Belleayre Beach, a great place to take the kids swimming. It’s also close to Big Indian, Peekamoose Restaurant, and the East Branch of the Delaware River, which means kayaking, fishing, splashing around in the cool water…the works. Once you get into Margaretville, take a walking tour of the historic buildings and grab yourself some ice cream from the Bun N’ Cone.
Or, you could move into this five bedroom farmhouse on an acre-and-a-half of land just north of both Margaretville and Arkville and make this your base of summer operations. The rocking chair porch with lattice work invites you to sit for a spell, perhaps with a frosty beverage. Inside, the 2300 square foot interior features hard wood floors, French doors, large country kitchen with basin sink and breakfast nook, formal dining room, and beds/baths on the second floor. The third floors remains unfinished and could be used for extra living space. The deck overlooks a stream on the property. All of this for $84/square foot and low taxes ($3300/year)? Welcome to the Catskills.
