An Ulster Park Home, Dishing on the Castle Theme: $489K

  |  February 21, 2024

When you think of stone, sometimes your mind drifts to castles…so, why not? Today, Upstater is visiting an Ulster Park home dishing on the castle theme.

Begun as a c.1940 cottage that was most likely much smaller, this home has grown over the years to a 5,850-square-foot property partly encased in stone. And yes, that’s a turret jutting off the back.

Gothic, cathedral-like details abound here, like leaded glass, columns, and catwalks.

The kitchen continues that dark theme with handmade cabinets that are black—if we didn’t know this home’s legacy, we’d swear those cabinets were treated with the modern, water-repellent “shou sugi ban” charred-wood treatment.

But then we see the shag carpeting in the kitchen, and we’re like, “Nah, we’re good.”

Chunky stone accents a wall in this dining room, along with a shattered-stone-like floor.

Another dining area has a truly artistic floor.

Skylights and a tongue-and-groove accent wall brighten up this room.

Stone (and carved carpeting) makes a comeback in this entry area.

Check out those funky spiral stairs, too.

The fireplace area is a mod-podge of shattered stone, carved carpeting, a huge picture window, and whitewashed stone.

Yup, this home had a major renovation in the ’70s. Hello, fuzzy carpeting, like, everywhere.

We like that stone tile treatment, even in this walk-in closet. For the record, the house has six bedrooms and four baths.

Yes, there’s modern-ish siding on the house.

Talk about a mish-mash of styles: Spanish tile makes an appearance on one part of the roofing.

This view of the home showcases a Juliet balcony on the turret.

This Ulster Park home, dishing on the castle theme, sits on just a half-acre that’s under 10 minutes to Kingston for a pint at Keegan Ales.
