An Updated Farmhouse in a Nice Highland Neighborhood: $359K

  |  March 4, 2024

The hamlet of Highland anchors the western end of the Walkway Over the Hudson. It’s also home to cute houses, like today’s updated farmhouse in a nice Highland neighborhood.

The house celebrates its century birthday five years from now, and has solid bones to prove it. The exterior has a big dormer on the roof that covers the traditional front porch.

Crown molding and arched doorways dress up the interior, like here between the entry and living room.

We’re loving the original hardwood floors and twin built-in bookcase/cupboards.

Another arched doorway leads to a roomy dining room. Vintage touches include wide baseboards, dentil molding at ceiling level, and cast-iron radiators.

A woodstove probably parked itself in that white-bricked corner at one time, but a china hutch is in residence there. The stained-glass pendant light is lovely.

Continue down the entry hall to the kitchen, which has new-looking laminate flooring. The fridge is stainless steel, but it’s rather slim.

Granite counters top white cabinetry, and the stainless steel appliances make this a fun kitchen in which to cook.

The listing doesn’t indicate what that sliding barn door covers, but it’s cute nonetheless. It slides behind the dinette when open. A second door leads outside.

This must be one of the three bedrooms.

This is another (the third isn’t pictured in the listing): It has gray carpeting and reclaimed-wood-like furniture.

The house has 1.5 baths—we’re unsure if this is the half or the full. It could use an update: Light brown tile on the floor kind of competes with the half-walls of gray tile.

A solar panel system is on that upper roof for savings on utilities. The 0.15-acre lot includes a back deck and an above-ground pool.

The aforementioned Walkway is just a mile and a half away. A great dinner at Henry’s Restaurant, at Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa, is just an eight-minute drive. The town of Lloyd has a free electric-car docking station, boat launch, and kayak launch.
