Call for Submissions: Video and Installation Artists for Catskill Show

  |  January 10, 2013
This came over the transom. Lovely Catskills is having an art show along main street, courtesy of video and installation artists. But they still need more participants. So if you are one, or you know one, and you have an idea of an art project for both common and uncommon surfaces, contact the folks below. Although it’s officially past the deadline, they’re still searching for contenders.
******
Participate in Masters on Main Street’s “The Glow Show”: a trail of video and light-based installations in Catskill, NY. Participating artists will be invited to utilize both common surfaces (monitors, screens, etc) and uncommon surfaces (sidewalks, storefront windows, and building facades) as viewing surfaces. The exhibition will include both trained and untrained artists who explore the experience of light during the darkest months of the year. The concept behind the show derives from a conversation around photoperiodism and the uncertain effects of light.
Artists will be invited to either create new work for the show or to install past work in a new way. We are looking specifically for video and installation work.
What to Submit:
– 7-10 Images of your work
– Links to your video works (if applicable)
Extended deadline for submissions: January 7th, 2013 (Passed but please contact me ASAP if interested in participating).
Designed to showcase Catskill’s streetscape, Masters on Main Street started in February 2010 showing work by over 100 artists from more than 35 top studio programs around the country in addition to collaborations with the artists from Occupy with Art and the New York Foundation for the Arts. The current round will primarily include video work from local Hudson Valley and New York artists.

Jonathan Wang is an interdisciplinary artist who recently moved to Columbia County. His work revolves around popular photographic/video practices and how we experience space. Wang was also the founder and director of FOTO Project Space, a non-profit artist-run photography space in Cape Town, South Africa that serves as a flexible platform for township-based artists.

The Glow Show” will open on February 24th and will be on view through April, 2013. Please email submissions or recommendations to jonathan.tz.wang@gmail.com or for more information call 518/5451175. Check for updates at greenearts.org.
