Car-Free Upstate: Ellenville Victorian, $190,000
Kandy Harris | May 28, 2014
The Ulster County village of Ellenville is a bit of a strange bird. Aside from the proposed Nevele casino project (which, by the way, intends to apply for tax breaks from the county, which gives us pause, due to that whole not contributing to the tax base thing), we barely hear a peep about it. It has a local performing arts space. It has a good restaurant. And, if you need some bang for your buck, it’s got some bargain beauties, like this Victorian situated about a 2 minute walk from where the Shortline bus stops daily near B&G General Store. What we like most about this property is that it sits on 1.5 acres right in the village, so you still get your space while being able to walk to places. Also of note: The carriage house with electricity and water. We can’t really get a feel for the interior, because the photos are too tight on specific details to get a lay of the land. But it’s got an enormous bathroom, that we can see. Other features include cherry woodworking, oak flooring, wrap-around porch, and a fenced-in garden. Parents of school-age kids, be warned. GreatSchools.com gives the Ellenville elementary, middle, and high school a 4/10 ratings.
