Dear Examiner: We Think You Meant the Other Woodstock

We were digging this brief art-related travel guide to the Catskills via the Examiner, which hits on a few of our favorite spots. Galleries in Catskill village? Check. Thomas Cole House/Cedar Grove? Check. Hudson River School Art Trail? Check. All these are great for an art tour of the area…except the Greene County village of Catskill is in the Hudson Valley, not the Catskills. Ah well. It’s a common mistake. We’ll let it slide.

What we can’t let slide, however, is the references to Woodstock. Indeed, the village of Woodstock in Ulster County is a great place to visit in the Catskills for checking out the local art scene. But the points of interest referenced in the piece – the Billings Farm and Museum, Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park, Gallery On the Green, Studio 47, Gallery on the Green, and North Wind Artisans Gallery – are all located in Woodstock, Vermont. Whoops.

That’s okay. We’re here to help. Here are our suggestions for art in actual in Woodstock, NY: Center for Photography at Woodstock, Woodstock Artists Association & Museum (WAAM), Kleinert/James Art Center, Byrdcliffe, and Lily Ente Gallery.
