Beacon Falls from Roundhouse, Beacon NY

This piece, which was recently featured in Chronogram.com, got us thinking about our neighbors in Dutchess and Putnam Counties. Beacon has definitely come into its own these days with independent boutiques (the Seeger spirit lives on through the city council, which hasn’t been the most welcoming toward big box chains), good eating, music venues, not to mention unparalleled access to the Hudson for your recreating convenience. Same goes for Cold Spring, 10 minutes to the south of Beacon along the eastern shore of the Hudson River. It’s touristy for sure, but how can you blame it? Easily reached by the Metro North, Cold Spring is the quintessential quaint Hudson Valley small town with its own share of boutique stores and pretty Victorian houses all in a row. And then there’s Garrison, also in Putnam County on the river, which strikes us as the older, reserved, more refined of the three.  Beacon still possesses the cheapest real estate, but that’s changing even as I type this sentence. Cold Spring and Garrison, on the other hand…well, let’s just say that the real estate properties are stunning, and the prices reflect same. Let’s roll up our sleeves and delve into the market in Beacon, Cold Spring, and Garrison this week. Stay tuned…
