Five-Figure Friday: A Poughkeepsie Three-Bedroom for $99K

  |  July 21, 2023

It’s Five-Figure Friday, and Upstater is featuring a three-bedroom Colonial in Poughkeepsie.

The house was built in 1920, and has solid bones within its 1,232 square feet. The exterior siding (aluminum and vinyl) is tan with brown trim, and looks a little worn. The full, covered front porch needs an overhaul but would be an inviting entry.

From the looks of those sofas, this was a house of pets with sharp claws. It would be a good idea for the new owner to rip up the carpeting, too; but the tile from the front door to the staircase looks intact. The room itself is a good size.

The carpeting in the adjacent dining room would have to go, too. But the wood trim around the doorway, along the baseboard and windows, and in the pass-through looks amazing.

The kitchen floor’s vinyl tile and worn walls need cosmetic updates. The white appliances look fairly new.

We’d consider replacing those cabinets and the Formica countertops, though. While they’re at it, the new owner would want to repaint that back door (but please don’t replace it, because it’s got some vintage character!).

The full bathroom is dated, but the ceramic tile floor, white tub/shower, and oak vanity look like they’re in good condition. Waiting on renovating this space would be a money-saver for an interim period.

The elbow grease saved on the bathroom is desperately needed here: This bedroom needs a lot of work.

The ceiling in this bedroom has collapsed, and that carpet has got to go. There’s no image in the listing of the third bedroom.

The house is being sold as-is. Still, it would be a worthy project for the right owner. It sits on 0.17 of an acre, with a grassy, fenced-in backyard.
