Fixer-Upper Cottage in Lake Peekskill, $84,500
Kandy Harris | August 15, 2014Five-Figure properties are hard to find in Putnam County, unless you dive into the foreclosures market. Which you totally should do! We avoid them for one simple reason: We can’t see inside. We can barely see outside, so non-foreclosures it is thanks to accompanying interior photos of varying quality. And naturally, that brings us to fixer-uppers. In spite of evidence that the house actually has an interior, photos just don’t tell the whole story of what’s in store for the intrepid handyman to take on such “potential.” This Lake Peekskill cottage on a hill, seems to have that potential. It’s 1,500 square feet and seems to have enough intact to not be too scary. And, we liked the location, perched up there on a hill in Putnam Valley overlooking Lake Peekskill. It comes with lake rights and access to the lake clubhouse. But yeah. It clearly needs a lot of work. We see exposed house skeleton all over the place, and the lot size is nothing much to write home about. On the other hand, it’s an hour from the city. Oh, and there’s one other thing to consider: All three of the Lake Peekskill beaches are closed until further notice due to algae blooms.
