We’ve known for a while that there was a Sears Roebuck kit house in High Falls, but we recently discovered that it’s on the market. These Sears kit homes are fascinating to us because we love the idea of picking out exactly what you want in a house, ordering it, and having all the materials and instructions mailed directly to you to construct. Fun fact: The first Sears mail order houses were summer cottages that didn’t come with bathrooms, but you could order an outhouse separately, if you wanted one. You can’t order a Sears house anymore, but many have stood the test of time, like the one shown here in High Falls. And we love the look of it. It’s simple, well-crafted (love the built-in cabinets under the supports of the living room entryway), and sits on an acre of land. But is it in keeping with our theme of living near the rail trail? Not particularly. The O&W Rail Trail does end in High Falls, but this property is about 4 miles southwest of there. We just wanted to feature it.
