Hillsdale Village Victorian, $199,000

We very much like the look of this three-bed, two-bath in the “town” of Hillsdale — it’s walking distance to the farmers’ and flea markets and the few other shops around those parts. There’s a caveat, which explains the price: it’s right near the intersection of Routes 23 and 22, which are the main drags around here. But this is countryside, and even the main drags are relatively quiet, two-lane roads.

We’re particularly fond of the lighting fixtures — that’s an affordable and quick way to modernize an interior, and allows a renovator to maintain a lot of detail in home without overdoing it. 41 Coldwater Street has nice built-ins and wainscoting and wood floors, but nothing that’s trying to hard. One note: it says the lot is small. There’s a garden, but don’t expect to play football on the lawn.
