Historic Warwick Homestead: $799.5K

  |  June 25, 2024

The town of Warwick was first named in the early 1700s; the town—located in southwestern Orange County—officially incorporated in 1788.

Today’s Upstater pick, a historic Warwick homestead, predates that incorporation. The Jeremiah Morehouse Homestead dates back to 1767. The center-hall Colonial has been beautifully preserved, with classic modernization over the years. The exterior shows off Greek Revival details along with a side porch, front portico with a red front door, and white siding with black shutters.

Wallpaper accents most of the rooms throughout the house, such as here in the entry hall.

Vibrant colors saturate the living room walls; the charcoal-toned fireplace and bright white side cupboard pop against that background.

Every room is differently designed, yet each one is more colorful than the next. You’ll find similar attention to detail in the neighboring Old Stone House Inn, whose owners carefully and magnificently brought back to life several years ago as an elegant restaurant.

The kitchen takes a breather from the vibrancy, with cool neutral walls a perfect backdrop for white cabinets and marble counters.

A herringbone tile floor and stainless-steel appliances are even more high-end touches.

This family room has blue-and-white wallpaper in big florals. The house’s design elements have been featured in magazines and provided the backdrop for fashion designer Frances Valentine‘s Spring 2021 collection.

An intricately tiled floor and fully tiled walls make up this full bath, with a corner glass shower. The veined marble vanity complements the color scheme.

A Chinese Chippendale railing makes its way up the stairs to the second-floor hall, which has wide-plank floors and red wallpaper that matches the downstairs foyer.

Greens, blues, and yellows dominate this bedroom.

Yellow provides an accent to an otherwise gray-and-white scheme in this bedroom.

A blue and gray printed wallpaper accent wall contrasts with lime-green walls in this bright bedroom.

The bathroom upstairs is elegant, with a thick slipper tub, the same basket-weave tiled floor, and a walnut vanity topped with marble. Gold accents up the elegance factor.

The little side porch is perfect for an afternoon teatime.

And an outdoor deck is a nice modern touch, too.

The house sits on 4.7 acres, with this sweet detached garage and paver driveway, too. It’s close to shopping and is just a three-minute drive to Pennings Farm Cidery for great drinks and events like its monthly Goat Yoga. The Warwick Drive-In is the same distance away, too.
