Quatrefoil Breaks Ground on a New Construction Home in Rhinebeck This Spring
Quatrefoil | January 29, 2024With its historic tree-lined streets, charming independent shops, and outstanding restaurant scene, Rhinebeck is a perennial favorite Hudson Valley town to settle down in. Finding a home in the village itself that offers today’s sought-after blend of minimalist design and livable, energy-efficient construction and conveniences, however, can be a difficult task indeed. For anyone who has been eyeing Rhinebeck real estate, Staatsburg-based design-build firm Quatrefoil is breaking ground on a new construction home within walking distance from the village center this spring.
For over a decade, the Quatrefoil team, led by builder Mike Whitman and his wife, architect Kathryn Whitman, has specialized in innovative from-scratch builds and the meticulous restorations of historical properties. When they saw the rundown three-bedroom ranch at 16 Old Post Road in Rhinebeck, they knew it was the perfect opportunity to rehab and reenvision the house into a modern, high-performance home.
Their original plan for the home’s renovation was to modernize the structure and add an addition, but after discovering the structural issues in the foundation they pivoted and decided to tear down and rebuild a new home within the same footprint.
The new design is for a 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bath home. The layout and finishes can be completely customized by the buyer in collaboration with the Quatrefoil team, who are known for their high-end interiors and attention to detail.
The first level centers around an open kitchen, which flows into the dining room and living room. On the other side of the floor is a family room, which can be changed to a ground floor master suite if desired. Upstairs, there will be three bedrooms with ample closet space, two baths, and a laundry and linen closet.
In addition to their dedication to masterfully crafted contemporary build-outs, the Quatrefoil team are also specialists in high-performance structures that decrease a homeowner’s carbon footprint and energy use. Everything from the building envelope to the doors, windows, and electrical systems from industry-leading manufacturers will prioritize energy efficiency and durability for years to come.
