Sweet Ranch Fixer-Upper in Ellenville for $229K
Jane Anderson | October 11, 2023One thing about the housing stock in Ellenville: If it’s great, it won’t last long.
Upstater confession: The minute we’ve laid eyes on a potential profile house this week, it’s either under contract or pending. Annoying. So if it looks like the village consists of only Midcentury Modern ranches, that perception is deceiving; the bigger, farmhouse- or Craftsman-style homes are just snapped up too quickly for us to feature. Luckily, though, the homes that linger longer have good bones and a good location, like today’s pick at the end of a dead-end street.
It has four bedrooms and two baths, and the exterior is a vintage mix of shingle and clapboard, with an inviting bluestone pathway that needs some resetting.
It’s got a two-car garage and a wide driveway, plus mature trees and landscaping.
The layout is classic ranch, with a front entry and a hall that leads to the bedrooms. The floor is hardwood, and the walls are in okay shape.
The living room is spacious, with ’80s-era uplit sconces on the wall.
The dining room has a ceramic-tile floor and what looks like glass sliders on a side wall. A ceiling fan with a light is over the dining table.
The kitchen features a pass-through to the dining room. It’s got a wood-panel scheme in the walls and the cabinets, with black countertops on the cabinetry and on a bowed center island that seats three at a breakfast bar.
There’s plenty of storage here, along with an alcove that could serve as a pantry or laundry area. There’s not much info in the listing, and the house is sold as-is—so there are probably some underlying issues that would behoove the new owner to research before buying. But the setting (the listing describes a mountain view, too!) and the 1,668-square-foot layout make us think it would be a good starter or downsizer home. It’s just a three-minute drive to the middle of the village and breakfast at Morning Sunshine.
