Take ‘Note’ of this Stone House in Walden, $279,000

Walden - Main Street

Orange County has so much to offer: river front towns such as Cornwall-On-Hudson and Newburgh and historic villages like Warwick, Goshen, and Walden? That’s right. Its not big, you may have never even heard of it before but Walden could hold its own in a charm war. It is one of the 3 villages that make up the town of Montgomery. What it lacks in size it makes up in charisma.

Walden has several claims to fame. Firstly, it is home to the Hudson Valley Conservatory, a performing arts studio directed by Sam E. Wright, the voice of Disney’s lovable crab, Sebastian. Walden also has one of the very best music stores/schools in the Hudson Valley, The New York School of Music.  What a musical town!

Not convinced? Go fishing in the Walkill River or jog, pedal, walk, whatever you’re into, down the Rail Trail, 3.2 miles of paved pathway. Walden is also just a short drive to the Historic Village of Montgomery (speaking of Montgomery, check out this Montgomery Village farmhouse) where there are many restaurants, shops and bed and breakfasts.

If the town alone has not convinced you to make the move to Walden, maybe this gorgeous 1769 stone house will. What do we love about it? A better question is “what don’t we love?” For starters, take a look at the raw cherry-wood framed windows that break up the stone exterior. Dreamy right? The little details throughout the home remind us just how vintage it is: wide plank floor boards, weathered exposed wooden beams in the living room, glass paneled built-ins with barn-like rod-iron hardware.

Just looking at the stone fireplace warms us from the inside out. Don’t even get us started on the picturesque wood burning stove complete with boots warming near the fire and a pile of chopped firewood nearby. The extension off the home is surprisingly modern but somehow the wood siding and brick pavers on the floor seamlessly tie it back into the rest of the home. The cherry on top of this beautiful stone house in the charming Village of Walden is the acres of apple orchard that borders the property. One of the many reasons why we LOVE Orange County!
