3 Reasons to Fall in Love with Ulster County NY: New Paltz, Gardiner, & Rosendale
Kandy Harris | September 4, 2017Hop on Route 32 in Kingston, Ulster County NY, head south, and you’ll hit Rosendale in about 10 minutes. Keep going south on Route 32 for another twenty minutes, and you’ll find New Paltz village. Main Street, New Paltz eventually becomes Route 208, which will take you 10 minutes south to Route 44. Hang a right onto Route 44, and boom. You’re in Gardiner. Why does all this boring route talk matter? Because the route talk involves an extremely doable weekend roadtrip to New Paltz, Rosendale, and Gardier.
All three are located in Ulster County about 10 miles west of the Hudson River. All three offer something different depending on what you’re looking for. In Rosendale hamlet, you’ll find an artsy vibe in a tight-knit community, funky cafes, swimming holes, and the Rosendale Street Festival, one of New York’s biggest free outdoor summer music festivals.
In New Paltz, you’ll find a college town with a deep vein of hippiedom, music stores, live music venues, mighty fine sushi, craft breweries, and Mohonk Mountain House.
And, in Gardiner, you’ll find farms, farm stands, rural character, a distillery, a brewery, and wineries.
All three sit in that sweet spot betwixt the Hudson River and the Shawagunk Ridge. All three offer decent public schools as well as private schools. All three are within striking distance of the Poughkeepsie Metro-North/Amtrak station, and all three are within 2.5 hours of NYC.
So, what are we waiting for? This week on Upstater, let’s explore the residential real estate listings in New Paltz, Gardiner, and Rosendale, and while we’re at it, we’ll fall in love of Ulster County NY all over again.
Stay tuned…
