What’s New, Putnam County?
Kandy Harris | August 11, 2014A little birdie told us that Putnam County has the lowest unemployment rate in the Hudson Valley. In fact, Putnam County has one of the lowest unemployment rates in all of New York State. More on that later today. There could be several reasons for this: Putnam County is affluent, and affluence attracts affluence. Unemployed people looking for jobs are most likely not looking for houses in Putnam County, thanks to the exorbitant houses prices and high property taxes . Furthermore, Putnam County has the Putnam Hospital Center, the county’s largest employer and one of the largest employers in the region. That could account for Putnam’s low unemployment, as well. One could also take into account that Putnam is a bedroom community. Many commute to NYC from Putnam thanks to a number of train stations situated in the county and the fact that it’s less than 90 minutes from Manhattan. Most likely, though, it’s a combination of all these and more than accounts for Putnam’s low unemployment, but most importantly, it gives us an excuse to peruse the expensive eye-candy that is Putnam County’s real estate market. We know we were just here back in June, but there’s still so much to see. Let’s take a gander together, shall we?
