Over the next five days, Upstater will be focusing its residential real estate search on Millerton NY and environs…

For a village of less than 1,000 full time residents, Millerton, NY in northeast Dutchess County has got a lot going on. Good coffee? Check. Indie moviehouse? Check. Deep roots in Hudson Valley railroad history? Check. In fact, it seems that the only thing missing from Millerton…is you.

Millerton and the rest of northeast Dutchess lies on the east side of the Hudson River, near the New York/Connecticut border. Head just north, and you’re in the Taconics, which are part of the Appalachians. Mostly rural in nature, this part of Dutchess County is home to rolling meadows, farmland, and equestrian properties set against a backdrop of gentle mountain rises. No need for creeping feelings of isolation, however. Communities like Millerton, Amenia, and Millbrook offer dining, culture, and plenty of fun for visitors and residents alike. Millerton even hosts a yearly summer music festival –Spring for Sound – featuring multiple stages and bands.

As for the residential real estate market, Millerton’s listings are not numerous. After all, this is Small Town Dutchess County. The handful of single-family properties on the market are mostly in the $200-300K range, with about a half-dozen reaching into the $600K-$1M and higher range. Therefore, we’re broadening this week’s search to include single-family properties close to Millerton.
