Osborn Castle in Garrison, $7.25 million
Kandy Harris | October 29, 2013
Okay, yeah. We know. Who’s got $7 million to spend on a castle in Garrison? But if you do, this is a good one. The Osborn Castle at Cat Rock is a popular event site and landmark in Garrison and was built in 1919 as a vacation home for railroad magnate Frederick Henry Osborn’s family. It exemplifies the difference between Albany and downstate: The Albany castle we looked at yesterday was 10,000 square feet. Osborn Castle is 10,000 square feet. The Albany castle was less than a million. This one is seven times that amount. Then again, this one is also situated on 120 acres, and the Albany castle lot size barely clears a half-acre. Anyway, the views from the upper floors of this place must be spectacular. Property includes a carriage house with apartment, a writer’s cottage, various other outbuildings/houses, pool, tennis court, stables, and so on, and so on. And you thought your taxes were high.
