Colonial Cottage + Guest Cottage in Claverack, $84,900
Kandy Harris | June 26, 2015If you’re looking for five-figure properties in Dutchess County, you’ll fare best if you head down Poughkeepsie way where you’ll find a treasure trove of mid-mods, Victorians, and all kinds of fixer-upper treasures with a cheap price tag. This offering, however, is a bit north of northern Dutchess County in the Columbia County hamlet of Claverack-Red Mills. Well, technically, it’s not a “hamlet” per se; Claverack-Red Mills is a “Census Designated Place,” which makes it sounds like it exists only the mind of some bureaucrat somewhere. In truth, Claverack-Red Mill’s population numbers in the 1000 range, and there’s a library, churches, markets, and some very pretty houses, all of which makes it sound like a bona fide village. To us, anyway. Meanwhile, there’s this cottage tucked back into the woods off of Claverack-Red Mill’s main drag and includes an additional 1 bed/1 bath guest cottage. This place needs some work, and according to the listing, the plumbing has suffered freeze damage. That could be a bummer, but we’re not turning our eyes away from the potential here. Head’s up: This is a cash deal only.
