A Dutchess County Midcentury Modern Ranch That’s Ready for Renovation, $299K
Jane Anderson | November 14, 2022
As the semi-yearly, fortnight-long Hudson Valley Restaurant Week enters its second week, we’re visiting homes that are a stone’s throw away from some of the eateries that are dishing up HVRW specials.
Today we’re in Wappingers Falls, at a home that’s a mere four-minute drive from rustic Italian cuisine at Aroma Osteria. The ranch-style home has three bedrooms and one bath. It’s affordably priced and being sold as-is, so it’s ripe for a cool renovation.
The front door opens into the living room, which has original wood flooring and faux wood beams on the ceiling.
A floor-to-ceiling brick-faced fireplace takes up most of one wall in the living room, too.
The kitchen is galley-style, with a light-blue double sink, dark cabinets, and a parquet floor. It could be made light and airy with a gut renovation that includes floating shelves instead of all those upper cabinets.
The dining room resides at the other end of the kitchen, against faux-stone walls.
Since the house was built in 1956, one would have to assume there’s wood paneling somewhere. And one would be right: This bedroom, being used as an office/TV room, has wood-paneled wainscoting. The original hardwood flooring is evident here, too.
This bedroom also has wood flooring, along with a scalloped cornice on the window above the bed. A third bedroom exists but wasn’t pictured in the listing.
All three bedrooms share this bathroom, which has white tiled walls and a tub-shower combo.
There’s a sweet enclosed porch at the back of the house, leading to a tidy, leafy backyard. The house is on a third of an acre and close to all the shopping, schools, and conveniences that Wappingers Falls has to offer. There’s a one-car attached garage, too.
