An Updated 1950s Ranch With a Splashy Backyard, $649K

  |  May 23, 2022

In honor of Mother Nature turning the dial up to Dante this weekend, we’re spending this week  luxuriating in homes with some of the coolest pools around.

This turnkey three-bedroom, 3.5-bath ranch in Newburgh was built in 1955; accordingly, it’s a Mid Century Modern throwback on the outside, but the inside is uber-modern.

Nice landscaping and lots of stonework enhance the streamlined exterior. A covered entrance is handy when you’re juggling house keys and groceries. The house is deceivingly large, totaling nearly 3,000 square feet inside.

Walk through the front door, and immediately get a sense of “I’m not in 1955 anymore.” Dark floors contrast with crisp white walls, and are those wooden rafters overhead?

Oh my gosh, yes! And check out that sunken great room: It’s a canvas for whatever the next owner wants to conjure up. A railing separates it from the eat-in kitchen’s dining area, plus there’s another room off the kitchen that’s perfect for either a formal dining room, a study, yoga room, or play area.

Hey, what’s that we see through the window? We’ll get back to that.

The kitchen has marble-toned countertops, clean white cabinetry, a gray stone backsplash, and stainless-steel appliances. You can see the great room’s fireplace from here, too.

The house has two bedrooms on the main level—both of them follow the dark-floor-and-white-wall theme. This level also has two full bathrooms.

The primary bedroom’s ensuite bath has a separate shower and soaking tub, white cabinetry, stone flooring, and granite double sinks.

The second bathroom has a tub/shower combo.

One wall of the great room is filled with windows and a door that opens into this big sunroom with twin ceiling fans.

From the main level, near the fireplace, there’s a staircase heading down to a guest suite.

It includes this walkout bedroom, plus a bath with a shower. But enough about the inside of the house—everybody in the pool!

Yes, that was a twisty slide we peeped through the window, and it leads into this beautiful free-form pool that’s fully fenced in.

The pool house has its own half-bath, so swimmers won’t track water through the main house. The property measures 1.5 acres on a cul-de-sac in the lovely Balmville area of the town of Newburgh, and includes a carport and an attached two-car garage.
