Civil War-Era Victorian with a Brand New Renovation in Chatham, $395,000
Kandy Harris | May 6, 2016
We’re finishing up our week of Renovations East of Hudson in a grand way. Originally built in 1865, this painted grand dame of a Victorian in Columbia County is called the Payn House, the Payn name making lots of appearances in Chatham history. The interior is awash in newness: New paint, new pine floors, new cabinets, new fixtures, new windows (and skylights), and new pine floors. Yes, we said “new pine floors” twice because look at them! If floors could be blonde bombshells, they would be.
That doesn’t mean all the old goodies have been removed. The original staircase is here, as are the high ceilings. Main floor consists of living room, formal dining room, kitchen with a bay window and pantry, and powder room. Upstairs is the master suite, two additional bedrooms, and another bath. Sits on a half-acre near the pretty, historic hamlet of Chatham.
49 Payn Avenue, Chatham (Arthur Lee of Red Rock)
