Cornwallville Estate, $725,000
Kandy Harris | April 2, 2014Here’s something different: A 19 acre estate in Cornwallville (a hamlet in Durham, Greene County), once owned by the son of a Brooklyn soda water magnate, complete with its own 9 hole golf course. The property is fascinating and fun to ogle at, especially the round oak room with the center fireplace and a ceiling emblazoned with heraldic symbols (according to the history on the listing page, the first owner’s brother-in-law, artist Karl L.H. Muller, designed the round oak room). The interior of the main house needs some updating since it looks a bit dated to us. Still, it’s quite an estate. Just a side note: The listing puts the taxes at $3,665, which seemed low even for Durham. So we double checked, and they’re more like $8,000.
