Fixer-Upper Farmhouse + Five Acres + $85K = Your Future in the Catskills

  |  January 11, 2019

Freehold, NY is where we stumbled upon this fixer-upper farmhouse in need of a full rehab.

Got fixing-up on your mind? Well, this Greene County 2,048-square-foot home needs a top-to-bottom overhaul. In fact, the listing is fairly up-front about it, stating in refreshingly candid language that the home “has issues” and “needs heating and plumbing rehab. Kitchen needs rehab, as well.” And, while the listing doesn’t explicitly say it, according to the photos, the baths need rehab, too.

There you have it. Get ready to roll up your sleeves.

In spite of its aforementioned issues, the c.1854, three-bedroom house contains some sweet spots, like hardwood floors and spacious rooms, plus a set-up for a wood stove on the first floor. There’s also a cute loft that overlooks the living room.

Oh look! Skylights!

And, wood floors throughout the second floor!

The property extends across King Hill Road and includes a large two-door garage that would make a great workshop, a pond, and an additional shed.

Finally, the listing goes on to state that only cash offers or rehab loans will be acceptable. That’s not too unusual for a five-figure property, and given that this one comes with over five acres of land, we see big potential here for a mini-homestead.

Freehold is about 20 minutes northwest of Catskill on the Hudson River, and close to Zoom Flume Water Park, the Greenville Drive-In, Kaaterskill Falls, Hunter and Windhams Mountains, and about 30 minutes from Albany.
