Kinderhook Turn-of-the-Century Colonial, $419,000
Kandy Harris | August 26, 2015Not that turn-of-the-century. Nope, not that turn-of-the-century, either. We’re talking turn-of-the-18th century, which definitely puts this Colonial in the Old House category. Although it was built in 1800, there’s nothing “old” about the interior, which seems to be beautifully maintained from plank floors to ceiling moldings. However, there are two aspects of this house we love the most. First off, the entryway woodworking that connects to the dining room. It’s kind of perfect. Secondly, the number of built-in shelves and cabinets. Back in those days, people weren’t packing up their cheap Ikea bookcases and moving to another town. They stayed in the house they built until they died, and then they passed it along to their children. And having moved my own cheap Ikea bookcases from one apartment to another, I find the thought of built-ins attractive. Built-ins for everyone! With apologies to Ikea. Includes an in-ground pool plus additional building with 3-car garage, office, and studio.
30 William Street, Kinderhook (Sotheby’s)
