This Onteora Park seasonal cottage is no ordinary Catskills summer home…

Situated just north of Tannersville village is the gated community of Onteora Park. This summer enclave has been around since 1887 and boasts oodles of Craftsman, Victorian, and bungalow homes that served as seasonal escapes for their occupants. And so it remains in 2018.

The Onteora Club offers members on-site golf and tennis courts, a swimming pool, theater, library, gun club, and a lake for recreating.

Too bad you can’t see most of these homes from the main road. These gems are tucked away behind trees and down curvy drives, hidden from view in the gated neighborhood. Every now and again, however, one will pop up on the market, giving us an opportunity to peek inside. And, since we’re finding homes with fireplaces this week, that seems like a good place to start.

As you can see, the c.1893 residence has a few fireplaces, two of them in the main living room. Makes sense, after all, as this is a seasonal home that still needs some warmth in the evenings and cooler days. And, they make attractive centerpieces to the main floor and the master bedroom.

Elsewhere in the house, rustic and original details reign plentiful, with birch ceiling/wall beams, cross-hatched window pains, and wide floorboards.

Furthermore, these homes were built to fit the whole family. There are five bedrooms in this house, plus 2,683 square feet of space. No doubt, everyone will be comfortable here. The property itself is also spacious with nearly two acres of land.

Now, we understand that a half-million dollar seasonal cottage might not be in most of our budgets. That’s okay, because we can still enjoy this relic from Catskills’ resort history and marvel at the beauty of these hidden homes.

There’s more to see of 32 Candace Road, Tannersville. Check out the rest of this Onteora Park seasonal cottage at Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty
