Wish List House #2: 1877 Renovated Colonial Farmhouse in Columbia County, $625K

  |  December 19, 2017

If we were to design our own perfect 1877 renovated Colonial farmhouse…we wouldn’t need to because 34 Wire Road, Germantown already exists.

This southern Columbia County slice of heaven is situated on nearly 3 acres of land 5 minutes north of Germantown hamlet and 10 minutes south of Hudson city. In terms of location east of the Hudson River, this one can’t be beat. It’s within a bucolic community while still close to shops, restaurants, live music, an arts/culture scene, and an Amtrak train station.

Meanwhile, the Hudson River is right next door, and the views of the Catskill Mountains are straight out of a Hudson River School painting…because this is where the Hudson River School painters derived both inspiration and subject matter from those very same views. Sounds pretty perfect to us.

However, the look of this renovated Centerhall Colonial is what has driven us to include this on our House Wish List. Dripping with antique charms, the four bedroom, 2400 square foot home is awash in light with crisp-white interior, grounded by the warmth of hardwood floors.

Includes living room with fireplace, formal dining room, large kitchen with tons of storage space, sitting room with Klein Kill stream views, library with tin ceiling, study, and an extra half-bath on the first floor.

En suite master bedroom with window seat is on the second floor, as well as three more bedrooms and a guest bath. These old houses often come with a host of nooks, crannies, built-ins, and bay windows, and this house does not disappoint in the nook/cranny department.

Long story short, this renovated farmhouse is our idea of the quintessential Hudson Valley farmhouse, and living here would be a wish come true, indeed.
