This Week on Upstater: A Country Home in the Catskills

Here’s what’s happening outside my house today.

Up here in the Catskills and Hudson Valley, we’re reaching peak leaf colors. All I have to do is look outside my window view the transformation up close and personal, but not all of us live among the trees. And that’s a darn shame. There is no better time to be in the Catskill Mountains than autumn.

Just this weekend, as I was driving home from Connecticut heading west, the sun was setting over the Catskills. Along with the gold-glow set dressing I got to experience first-hand, a wreath of mist was settling into the foothills. Acres and acres of gold, orange, and crimson opened up before me, and I was so stunned by the beauty of it all, I almost had to pull over. I wish I had. After all, I couldn’t very well capture it on my camera from the driver’s seat, so I didn’t get a picture save the image burned into my brain. But I wanted more than anything to keep driving west, into the sunset, until I was in the heart of the mountains, never to return to civilization.

Once I got home, I did what any self-respecting real estate hound would do: I opened up the listings and began searching for a country home in the Catskills in order to quell my longings. Stay tuned this week to see what I found…
